OK let’s be honest here, the holidays can be horrible sometimes. You get to see family and family usually comes with drama!! Yeah, we get it cousin Dale you went to Harvard…you also currently work at a Dunkin Donuts and OK Aunt Mary we have heard how much you hate “all this new fangled technology,” we really don’t care and will continue to scroll through our news feeds while you talk. Then there’s the date meeting the family, the awkward hugs, the Christmas music in the background…..
Look on the bright side!!! You have a family to hang out with on Thanksgiving!! There will likely be plenty of food, your date might fit in right away, and your favorite team might just win!! Even though it may be stressful remember to take a moment and appreciate the people around you and how much of an impact they have had on your life, be it good or bad!! You can’t choose your family, you can however, work with what you get!!
If you don’t have a family the holidays can be even worse, but don’t let this keep you from having a good time. Talk to some co-workers, most of them are more than happy to have another person over and talk shop when the family is annoying them. You might even end up as an escape plan!! If this is too much for you I suggest volunteering somewhere. Giving your time to help people in need makes you feel good about yourself and also allow you to realize life can always be hard, but it can be good too.
If you are the guy that has to go get a free meal on the holiday… hey at least you are getting a free meal, a warm place to eat, and caring people to surround you!! No matter what your situation may be, stay positive and remember to take a moment and be thankful for all the little things that make life worth living……also, don’t be afraid to tell Cousin Dale to Shut Up!!
